Make Up Tips for Blue Eyes

Great Make Up Tips for Blue Eyes

Blue eyes are often associated with fair complexions, the skin can appear to have an almost translucent quality about it which is why warm, earthy, neutral tones work best, that will enhance your natural coloring, rather then make it look washed out. A natural look is one of the most difficult to achieve that requires careful color choice and a light and skillful touch, so don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment until you find the right color to enhance those baby blues.

Colors
These are grouped into two categories warm and cool. For those with blue eyes the right make up is going to be the warmer shades, that will help to frame the eyes. Warm colors are yellows, oranges, reds and purples, that go all the way down the spectrum to neutral colors which includes browns, vanilla and cream.

The best choices to enhance blue eyes are all shades of brown as these tend to draw the eye out and it is a color that contrasts well with blue. This is not to say that cooler colors should be totally ruled out, some of them work really well with blue. Lavender and pale pink for instance is really pretty make up for blue eyes, especially when blended with the warmer shades.

Texture
Most people just concentrate on color and rarely think about texture,  yet texture is important for creating the best make up look for your complexion and skin type. Texture for instance is evident in lipstick, a sheer texture generally tends to be natural whilst a matte texture can be used to bring more drama to the eye.
Sheer is a good texture to work with especially if you have that classic English rose look that is usually associated with blue eyes. Sheer textures are more natural and are difficult to make a mistake with, as it’s more about a hint of a color than actual full color.
Shimmers contain light reflecting properties that will help impart a healthy glow. A highlighter for the brow area will help to open up the eyes and put radiance back into dull pale looking skin.
Matte is the absence of a glow that tends to leave a drier finish on the skin and is often the preferred choice for eye make up because of its staying power.

Eye Shadow Tips

I am of a fair complexion and have blue eyes and knowing how difficult it is to get application and shading right, I have included some of  my tried and tested tips  on make up that I have used over the years:

  • For blue eyes use a golden peachy eye shadow to bring out the blue in your eyes and apply copper eye shadow over the lids.  Line the lower lids with an auburn pencil, this color gives the illusion that there is no makeup on whilst helping to accentuate the blueness of the eyes, great for that sun kissed girl next door look
  • To give the eye pop, a great eye makeup tip is to apply a white eyeliner pencil around the inside rim that will help the eye look wider and give it sparkle.
  • Light transparent pinks look great on fair skin, they can be pale and glossy with a slight blue undertone, or muted and dusty with a subtle hint of beige. Pink toned beige’s, mocha and honey shades work really well with blue eyes especially for that sultry evening look, helping to create depth and drama
  • Your base will set the stage for your makeup and foundation has two basic tones cool and warm. As a rule of thumb cooler shades help to tone down redness in the skin and suit that classic rose look. Yellow bases that can appear almost beige or peachy in appearance, give warmth to the skin and are great for those with darker complexions
  • On a final note there are some definite things to avoid when considering make up tips for blue eyes. The most important is to avoid pale blue eye shadow at all costs as this will clash with the color of your eyes and make them blend in rather than stand out. I personally tend to try to steer clear of using too many cool colors as these can make my skin look pale and washed out.
